Looking forward to PubCon South in Dallas this year. It will be a nice change from PubCon in Vegas. Don’t get me wrong, I love Vegas – but there comes a time where you just need a change of scenery. The last 3 shows I’ve been to were in Vegas. [...]

In case you’re wondering what I look like after I’ve driven 20 hours, this pretty much sums up the trip. Driving with 2 kids in the car, in the snow for part of the way, is definitely not my idea of a good time. From now on, I’m just going to suck it up and get on a plane. In a few short hours, the pain is over and you’re where you need to be. Holiday travel is especially tough, so luckily we don’t have to worry about that again for a while. However, with a couple of business trips coming up soon I’ve been looking around online to see where to get the latest flight deals. Anyone know of any good places to go other than the traditional orbitz.com, travelocity.com, etc. sites? I used Kayak once or twice to compare rates between all of these big sites but never booked anything.

T-Rex, located at Downtown Disney, is my favorite Disney restaurant so far. We’ve been quite a few times and have never been disappointed. The kids absolutely LOVE it. It’s a prehistoric themed restaurant where the dinosaurs actually move and there’s a simulation of a meteor hitting Earth where the entire restaurant turns red and rumbles. The atmosphere is A++ and the food and service have never been bad for us. We’ve been here 6 times now and our daughter asks us to go on every trip to Disney. Highly recommended!

I love to travel. I just don’t do enough of it at the moment. But when I do, one of my favorite places to go is down to the Florida Keys with my snorkeling gear, a bathing suit, and a cooler full of Coronas (and limes, and, oh, don’t forget the bottle opener!). It’s seriously fun, and fairly inexpensive. Well, I live in South Florida to begin with, so it’s just a couple hour drive away and there’s no plane ticket involved, so that always helps. The water is crystal clear blue and the fish you see are unreal. That might be the Corona talking, but I don’t think so. I highly recommend a trip if you’ve never tried it. When I say Florida Keys, in this context I’m really talking about the upper Keys (Key Largo through about Marathon). Key West is another blog all on it’s own at some other time….too many other things to do there than snorkel so we’ll leave that for some other time. If you plan on going more than once, you can probably buy all the gear you need for the cost that you’ll pay someone there to rent it for the day. The only real expense you’re looking at is a hotel/motel room for the night, because with the aforementioned cooler of Corona you probably aren’t going to be able to drive home, no matter where you live. The closest airport is in Miami, so you probably aren’t going to want to drive back there that night, either. Just throw up a few bucks and get a nice little place for the night. I found a great little joint with a private little beach (boat dock, charcoal grill, tiki hut includeed!) that’s my own little secret but if you send me an email I’ll shoot you the information for it. Cheap and awesome! Snorkeling right off of the private beach, or you can call one of the local boats to come pick you up at your dock and take you out a ways to a good reef for some really unbelievable scenery. The photo above is of my wife and I on the Morningstar out of Key Largo. Great time! Look for more recommendations soon, or shoot me an email for my Keys secrets! Looking forward to hearing from you!
