A MODERN DAY LOVE STORY TOLD IN ONLY 3 PICTURES

I read something on a forum that I frequent today and it really struck me how true it really is. It was just a simple post from someone who said “Do something you love, because whatever you do will be hard work”. How true is that! Sometimes I have to look at my life and think to myself how lucky I really am. My job is all online. I love being online, I love learning about new technology, and I love finding new ways to show off my entrepreneurial spirit. I wake up some days and grunt and groan that I don’t feel like working today etc., but when I really think about how lucky I am I want to kick myself for ever complaining.
As I type this, I am sitting on my lanai next to my pool in my house in sunny South Florida enjoying a slight breeze on a 78 degree beautiful day. And I’m working. And I’m wearing a pair of shorts and sandals and no shirt, trying to brush up on my tan a little bit. If this was the real world, I’d be fired right now. But hey, I’m my own boss and I deemed today “Casual Wednesday At The Pool” day. My point behind all of this is, since I love what I do, I don’t really consider what I do “work”. I’m on and off of the computer from 7:30AM until 11PM or so pretty much every day of the week. Long hours by normal standards. But in between 7:30AM and 11PM I may take a bike ride, go out on my boat, go lay out by the pool, or just go take an hour nap if I feel like it. That’s the beauty of life being me right now. I’m not saying my life is easy; it’s actually quite the opposite. I work very hard at what I do and subscribe to the “work hard, play hard” philosophy. When I’m working, you better believe I’m giving it my all and then some. But when I play, I have a LOT of fun doing it. I don’t know, something just struck me when I read this post today that made me stop and think… I have a beautiful wife, a beautiful daughter, living in absolute paradise and I have no reason whatsoever to complain about anything. And this is all possible because I LOVE MY JOB. So, when you’re out there looking for work, don’t just settle for whatever comes along. If you think you’ll be unhappy doing it, don’t bother. You’ll be much happier in the long run if you wait for that perfect opportunity.
Ok, so call me slow. I haven’t had a blog until now. I also haven’t been on MySpace until very recently. I mean, I created my account way back in the day and just never did anything with it. Then one day, for whatever reason, I ended up back on MySpace and decided to really give it a chance. Being a guy that’s immersed in computers and technology day in and day out, I honestly thought that MySpace would just be a passing fad. Then the Google buyout happened. That’s when I knew it would be for real. So I checked it out. Pretty cool, created my profile, gave it a neat look (South Florida - palm trees, of course!), added some photos and thought, hey this is neat, but what good is it? Then came the emails. Friends of mine from high school and college “found” me and requested to be my friend again. How cool. Catching up on old times, seeing what everyone is up to. This is all pretty neat stuff. But what does it have to do with my life TODAY? One word. Networking. The possibilities are endless on MySpace. No matter what you do, I guarantee you that there is a group on MySpace for it. Use it! I know I am. And hey, you just might meet someone pretty cool in the process. After all these years, I’m now a believer.
